Edo State Agricultural Development Programme

Edo State Agricultural Development Programme was established to boost agricultural production, improve the income level for smallholder farmers, and contribute to rural livelihood.

The Ministry of Agriculture is entrusted with the pivotal mission of advancing the agricultural sector to achieve food self-sufficiency, enhance farmers’ livelihoods, and contribute to the overall economic growth of the nation. We strive to implement policies and programs that harness innovation, technology, and best agricultural practices to create a resilient and vibrant Agricultural landscape.

We aim to create a strong and flexible agricultural landscape by implementing policies and programs that take advantage of innovation, technology, and best Agricultural practices.

Objectives of the ADP

  • Increase agricultural production and contribute to rural livelihood and food security.
  • Provide support for increasing agricultural productivity, profitability, and household income.
  • Enhance the efficiency of research and extension services to increase adoption rates of improved agricultural technologies.
  • Conduct agricultural surveys and production constraint analyses to identify limiting factors and propose solutions to increase productivity.

Functions of the ADP

  • Provide advisory services to farmers on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
  • Teach and spread better farming techniques and effective farm management practices among the farmers and fishermen residing in the state.
  • Maintain vigorous, effective result–oriented, and unified agricultural extension in the state.
  • Provide and maintain necessary infrastructure such as rural roads, water boreholes, dams, and other irrigation facilities to aid agricultural development in the state.
